I might not be someone’s first choice, but am a good choice

I may not be rich, but I am valuable

I don’t pretend to be someone I’m not because I am good at being me

I might not be proud of some of the things that I’ve done in the past, but I am proud of who I am today

I may not be perfect but I don’t need to be. Take me as I am or watch me as I walk away.

Self- image is the opinion or idea we have of ourselves, especially of our appearance or abilities. It is one of the main factor along with hard word and confidence that directly affects our performance and so achievements. But only few people realize how important it is for them to form an appropriate self-image in their mind. In general it is found that people create two types of self-images:-

  1. Positive self-image

  2. Negative self-image

People who have created a positive self-image believe in themselves. They have a way of seeing everything with a positive attitude. They are confident and have the courage to confront every difficulty with a smile. Most importantly they know about their capabilities. They consider every crisis as an opportunity to experience something unique and come up with creative solutions instead of sitting back and complaining. They have boldness and the type of persona that shouts “I CAN”. They are enthusiasts and show great energy in their work as a result of which they often are awarded with enviable success and happiness in life. These people are actually the real heroes of life as they have the capability of dealing with every situation and they always raise a bar for themselves due to which they are always in the process of improving. Basically, it is the attitude of fighting every battle of life with courage, confidence, determination and intense hard work.

Creating a positive self-image is actually a big problem that people of our time. We have heard many criticisms and feedbacks in life that these negativity have gotten so strong that it kills the passionate, optimistic kid that resides in all of us. It is a fact that people who don’t know what kind of person we really are, are actually manipulating us in an indirect way to form our self-image. Due to the preconceived ideas, we often end up underestimating ourselves and our capabilities and thus create a negative self-image in our mind. The attitude of “I CAN’T” wins over our natural attitude of “I CAN” because we allow others to design a negative image of ourselves and plant it in our mind. Because of the negative self-image we’ve created we fail to recognize opportunities and utilize them to improve ourselves. Instead we let them slip from our hands making some kind of lame excuses to people around us while in our heart we know that the fear of ailing in the challenge was what was preventing us in accepting the challenge in the first place. And why is it that we think we would fail before even accepting the challenge? It is because of the negative self-image that we’ve shaped. We live in a fear of what people might think if we fail. What people think is not as important as what we think of ourselves. We need to understand that winning and losing is a part of life. It is not as important as the improvement that we show after we toil to win the test.

There are also people who have no image of themselves drafted in their mind. They are utterly confused of even their capacities and remain tangled throughout their lives.

Change is a way of life and self-image that we form is an essential aspect in determining what kind of difference to bring in our life. Will we improve or will we deteriorate? It all depends upon the self-image designed. I don’t think any of us are incapable of even knowing ourselves. Somewhere in our heart we know our strength, our weaknesses, our capacities and our character. Then why do we hesitate to mold a positive self-perception in our mind? Why give this power to individuals who don’t even know what kind of a person we are? Only and only if we form a precise image can we improve in making ourselves better. When we are aware of what we’re capable of we push ourselves more, we try harder, we toil harder which will undoubtedly make us a improved individual.

First accept yourself the way you are. All of us are different and thus unique. We don’t need to be someone else to be likeable or successful. We just need to refine ourselves. Don’t change because others want you to change. Change in such a way that it benefits you and those who you care about; change in a way that you can strike every hurdle with confidence and without self-doubt. You’re valuable, your life matters. So don’t let yourself go down the drain just because you couldn’t know yourself properly. So start to see things differently: with a positive attitude. It is believed that when we are willing to see things differently, they have a way of showing up differently. When we believe in ourselves and our minds are open, there are no walls and all things become possible.
